Over the past few years there have been questions raised by some consumers over the potential effects of smart meters on human health.

This led Arc to commission Dr Bill Heffernan, Senior Research Engineer with the Electric Power Engineering Centre (EPECentre) to research New Zealand’s smart meters and to produce a white paper on the health and safety aspects of Smart Electricity Meters, from an independent perspective.

This body of work is mainly related to the RF emissions from the communications transmitters in the meters themselves and, where applicable, in other equipment forming part of the relevant network.

It’s not limited to Arc’s particular network methods and topologies, but endeavours to cover all known meters and systems with a solid emphasis on those in use in New Zealand.
