Minister agrees to smart meter recommendations

Energy and Resources Minister Gerry Brownlee has agreed to the recommendations set out in the Electricity Commission's report on the roll-out and requirements for smart meters in New Zealand.

Electricity Customers already benefiting from Advanced Meters

The introduction of advanced or "smart" electricity meters in recent times has not been without controversy with a view from some groups that the meters are not delivering benefits to electricity customers.

However as Simon Clarke, chief executive of Christchurch-based smart meter developer Arc Innovations explains, electricity customers are enjoying benefits from advanced meters right now, with more yet to come.

 Money and power is being saved by many of the thousands of Christchurch residents now getting accurate readings from their new 'smart meters.'

Arc Innovations is the New Zealand leader in developing and deploying the meters and has successfully managed the first large-scale advanced metering network in Australasia.
